Theme: National Park Concessioners and the NPS' Second Century
We will discuss:
► The NPHA “Grow Book” and our efforts to expand the array of visitor services provided to park visitors by concessioners;
► The relationship concessioners should have with the next iteration of the federal recreation information and reservation site, www.recreation.gov, which will roll out in September 2018;
► Major initiatives at Interior with consequences for concessioners in parks, including withdrawal of NPS Director’s Order 100 and the expected creation of a new broad recreation advisory committee, appointment of a new “recreation champion” to help cut through bureaucratic inertia;
► Congressional interest in revamping key provisions of the 1998 Concessions Act, including recognition of excellence, incentives for private investments and length of concession terms;
► The status of the J-1 Visa Program in 2018 and beyond;
► The impact of wildfires and hurricanes on national parks and concessions activities, and how we make visitor needs important goals in recovery efforts;
► Developing an industry position on intellectual property; and
► The long term outlook for national parks funding – from appropriations, fees, partnerships and philanthropy – and how concessioners can be key in this area.
Details: Our meeting will begin the afternoon of Monday, November 13, with committee meetings and a reception. Tuesday will include a discussion of the role parks play in Secretary Zinke’s agenda, as well as open dialogue with the National Park Service Commercial Services Team. NPHA members and meeting participants are offered a special rate of $149 single or double, plus taxes and fees. Lodging is available at the special meeting rate for the duration of the meeting. Transportation: Excellent access to our meeting location is available through the Denver International Airport (DEN) located 30 minutes away. The deadline for “Early Bird” registration is October 31. All registrations by that date are discounted $50 from the rates shown above. Cancellations made prior to that date will not incur a fee. A $100 fee will apply for cancellations made between 11/1 and 11/10, and a $200 fee will apply for cancellations after 11/11. Attire: Business casual for all functions. November weather in Colorado is usually great. Anticipate highs in the mid-50s and lows of about 30°, sunrise at 6:30 am, darkness at about 6:15 pm. Chances of sunshine are high – 70+%, and monthly precipitation is less than 1 inch.
